Okay, this post was bound to happen in the next few days. As we all know, Summit Entertainment (the Twilight folks), have snapped up the rights to Divergent before it was even released!! What do you guys think of the movie? Do you think Summit can pull off another young adult series like they did Twilight? Do you think that it stands a chance against the Hunger Games and the Mortal Instruments / Infernal Devices? Also, who do you want to direct? Who do you want to be cast? Give me your opinions!
I personally think that Summit can pull off another young adult series, because they will have all the Twilight fans to do it. While that may be a bad thing, I think that it will establish a very large audience from the beginning, and will expand even more because, in my opinion, it has a better story and characters. I also think it stands a chance against the Hunger Games and Mortal Instruments / Infernal Devices because it has such and intriguing story and characters! I have no idea who I would want to direct the movies or to be cast, but give me your opinions and maybe you'll give me a good idea!

All i know is that if the guy who plays Four is unhot, there will be riots. But seriously, i think that all this movie needs is a decent cast. It shouldn't involve to much special effects and stuff, as long as the director is halfway decent, it should be killer. EXCITED!

Summit is doing pretty well with Twilight. so i think they may be able to pull this off. I am so worried about the casting , everybody has to look RIGHT or i'll be unhappy. I don't want an amazing book to be ruined the wrong cast- I also hope that they don't go too mainstream - for example put Taylor Launtner as four. because that would suck - and we'd end up with a truckload of T-launtner fans on our hands Percy Jackson (the movie) was okay but casting for Annabeth made me dislike her character. and with the hunger Games - i am SO excited. but Liam Hemsworth as Gale is annoying me still.

I honestly don't like the idea at all. I mean, it has a lot of potential to look good on screen, sure, but I just prefer books to films. =P What I would really like to see on screen is Scott Westerfield's Uglies series. Just my opinion.

I agree with most of you guys on the whole mainstream part. I think it would be cool if they pick unknown's for the main roles like Tris, Tobias, Christina, etc. and then pick really strong actors for roles like Tris' mother. Also, I hope that they have a director as passionate about the film and fans as Gary Ross is for the Hunger Games!! That would be great. :-) But I think this could do really well box-office wise.

Scott himself said that the paperwork is all signed to make it happen if my memory serves me right (:

Cast isn't as important to me if they manage to perform well. (Though I'll never get over a blond Haymitch.) I just hope that Summit does this right in focusing on Tris's struggles with her drastic life change instead of primarily focusing on her romance with Four. That's my top concern. Hollywood puts too much emphasis on romance when there are other themes that can be equally or more important and effective, especially in Divergent.

I'll be okay with Summit, the studio that made Twilight, making the movie as long as they don't market it as the next Twilight! Divergent is gritty and gruesome and NOT just a romance (though I love the romantic storyline!) Then I will flip out. I actually want the characters to look like real people, not models. Even Four, as attractive as Tris finds him, is described in ways that make him not-so-perfect looks-wise (hence why no one else in Dauntless is really attracted to him). For Tris, Veronica Roth herself said Tassia Farmiga from American Horror Story is great looks wise. I've heard she's great on the show, but I've never watched it

I think Tassia definitely has the looks, but I've seen American Horror Story. I won't say she's a bad actor, I'm just uncertain if she would be able to play Tris's character right. Granted, all of Violet [her AHS character] is mellow or crying. Not much range in that character, so I can't criticize the actress unless I saw her in more. What about Saoirse Ronan? She's not beautiful, but she's not ugly either. She's average [though this picture makes her look much prettier then others I've seen], which is how Tris is described. Also, she was fantastic in The Lovely Bones. And maybe Adam Gregory as Four? I definitely want Tom Felton to be Peter. I don't even care. He would be PERFECT.

Lucas Till for Will, anyone? I don't remember what Will looked like, but Lucas fits my mental image of him. I also kinda like Alexander Ludwig for Peter, although I tend to cast him as like every blond bad guy.

Oh god, yes. I can picture Lucas Till as Will perfectly. I'm picturing Keke Palmer as Christina possibly.

I feel like the movie could wind up being really good or really bad... It doesn't have the huge mainstream notice like Harry Potter or the Hunger Games does, so the directors might not put as much effort into making it really good as they do into the really big series', such as Twilight or Hunger Games or Harry Potter... I'm just worried it'll more go the way of The Lightning Thief or Eragon, both of which were horrible adaptions of the books. As for casting, I personally love Chloe Moretz as Tris She's an incredibly good actress, and I think she could pull off Dauntless no-problem after seeing her in Kick-Ass. She also looks much as Tris is described, and...just in general I think she'd do wonderfully.

I think that she could definitely pull off both the Abnegation and Dauntless sides of Tris!
