I saw them around bookstores for about two years but I saw the internet fandoms growing, so at the beginning of the summer when I was at an airport with nothing to read I just picked up the first one to find out what was so great- I got the second and third from a library shortly after, and I've been a fan since- I've also gotten a few of my friends reading it, as they've heard of it from seeing stuff for the movie. I have also corrupted many of my friends. I have now gotten about four of them to read it and they all loved it. I'm working on another who is very hard to convince, but she says she'll see the movie with me so maybe THEN she'll finally read them? One of my friends is obsessed now that I have introduced her to the series. We were at Chick-fil-a about a month ago and the cashier had her hair in a braid. My friend marched up to her and asked her if she has ever read The Hunger Games. The girl stared at her for a second before saying, "I have never read them, but I have heard of them. ... why?" Our faces looked like this:  My friend and I started laughing and she nervously replied, "Ummm, it's just... you know, your hair is in a braid... and the main character wears her hair in a braid... uhhh... yeah..." I HAVE BRAINWASHED HER!!! |

My friend told me to read them when I was in seventh or sixth grade (about one or two years ago) and I've been hooked ever since. Every time a new book was released I refused to talk to my friends or do anything that would distract me from the book. When Mockingjay came out, I was reading during recess (and that was my third day at a new school, so I got labeled as a bookworm, which I am). When I realized that a movie was coming out, i started 'stalking' the fandom, looking for any info about the cast. I have to say, my first reactions were totally different than what I think of them now (especially Woody Harellson, Lenny Kravtiz, and Jennifer Lawrence).

I actually ended up introducing my whole family to this series and got most of my friends hooked on it. Though you always get the odd one who this its rubbish!

Ahhhh, I really want my family to read it! I'm trying to convince my mom, but a) she hasn't read in a while, and b) I kind of don't want her to? She is coming to the premiere with my little sister and it's kind of "my thing", you know? Something I've been waiting for for what seems like forever. If she was to read it before the movie, not only would it not be "my" thing, but then she would know everything that would happen! I was looking forward to her being shocked! But, then again... if she reads the book AFTER the movie, the movie kind of spoils the book. One of the greatest things about The Hunger Games is its ability to hook you and sort of MAKE you turn the page in suspense. It's totally addicting! the movie would spoil all of the excitement. Ahhh, decisions, decisions... |

I think she finally read it because I never stop talking about it and she has no idea what i'm talking about! Though my father refuses to read it as it is a 'rubbish book with no excitement in it' tsk tsk I thought the saying was don't judge a book by its cover?  |

in 9th grade (last year) my librarians threw all the books at me and told me to read them that night or never come back again.... (long night :/)

Well I don't think romance is something that guys usually enjoy But i'm not a Peeta or Gale fan- Though more Peeta than Gale. Then again I prefer Finnick over the lot. Was it awkward reading it from a guys point of view? |

well in my opinion i do enjoy reading some romances (not gunna lie) my aunt made me read some with her and ehhh.
anyways the reason i didn't like it is becuase it is completely unrealistic (yes i know its a book and blah blah blah....) but if any guy liked a girl that long then almost died for her and she still felt nothing, there would never be real love. the reason i like Gale better is that; he was a real man for her. when Katniss left the family, no money an etc., Gale promised to provide for her family when he could barely provide for his own. that is where real love would come from not almost dieing for someone then not getting any love till they need to 'use' you.
to make a long story short, from my view it wasn't as much awkward as stupid and infuriating for a guy (or just me?).
