I would like to add in a new favorite companion. Dorothy Gale McShane aka Ace. Companion of the 7th doctor. And completely awesome.

I think because one she was younger, and two, because the Doctor probably always acted more like a teacher to her. Otherwise, not entirely sure. Otherwise I dont think they ever stated why. JUst an Ace thing.

really??? nooooo!! and apparently its a lot more violent as well. ON the plus side...Jack does get more action. Just saw it... He does... but it was pretty bad. It was like torchwoods evil half cousin. Also hated the end. It contradicted what Russell wrote in doctor who.

My favorite companion is Rose. I am a huge shipper of 10/Rose. I do love Donna, though. And Jack. Oh, Barrowman. :3
Least favorite is Martha. She just really annoyed me. She seemed whiney and needy.

I definitely agree! Same here! But although Martha is really annoying in season three, she is really cool once she leaves the Doctor.

I love so many things about all of the companions, but above all the rest, I'd have to go with Rose. Not only was she a perfect(ly flawed) companion, she revived Doctor Who! Face it, without Rose Tyler, Doctor Who would not have made the comeback that it did. Her transition between both Doctor's was absolutely flawless. And you have to admit, there's a reason the Doctor can't stop mentioning her. Even in season six, he brings her up. It's obviously for a reason!

I was really sad that there were not very many Rose references in season six! I really think that they should bring all the companions back for one season finale, that way we would get Rose AND Tennant back for an episode or two, not to mention Jack!

I find it rather sad that when most new fans of the show mention the Doctor, they only go back to Ecclestion. Same for compaion.s they only go back as far as Rose. No mentions of Zoey or Lela, Sarah Jane, Teagan, Turlough, Jamie, Ace. Even less know of Susan his granddaughter. All former companions of the previous doctors. Some great, others not so much. Warriors and damsels in distress. Why do they get no recognition? Ace is the only person ever to actually beat up a dalek to death. And she did it with a baseball bat!

Also, Ian and Barbra get mentioned even less! it is amazing how horrible the First Doctor is with his TARDIS. He can never seem to find the right time! I was really sad to find out that there is an episode with the third Doctor that includes Rasputin. Instead of making Rasputin an alien that is extremely hard to kill, and just so happens to have a weakness to water (because that is how the real Rasputin finally got killed off), they made him a normal human and the Doctor's companion at the time switched out the poisoned food with non poisoned!!!!!!!!

And I rather like the idea of the doctor not being able to control fully the TARDIS. It actually works since you find out that he did steal it (or borrow) and ran away. And that was the first doctor. The youngest one. The one with the least amount of experience. So trying to control a devise like the TARDIS makes sense. He's still learning about it. Especially since they stated how its an older model.

What stephen moffat needs to do is to bring back someone from a previous series into series 6, even though they have cut off ties to the previous series. Like they did with sarah jane.

Ace and Sarah Jane were so amazing. I cannot even begin to describe my love for those two. I love Rose so so so much, and she's still my favorite companion overall, but on the badass scale, Ace is an 11 and Rose is only like a 7. And Sarah Jane is a 9. I feel like the companions from classic Who (as a whole, I know its not the case for some) were more badass.

I have a question...Is River Song a companion or what? ? And I just finished season 5 but I know that her and the doctor are married from reading online sites...so what is river song otherwise in relation to the doctor? ?

Yeah. River is a companion...and his wife. As well as being the daughter of two of his other companions.
