Yeah... I turn all the boys I know off reading cause I constantly talk about it. They read stephen kind novels anyways! But I love Stephen King novels!

They might be interested in like Star Wars or Harry Potter or something but like Matched, Delirium, and all the parts in THG except for the killing scenes might not be interesting to them. Like because they see them think "Ugh this is romance no way!" and then put the book down.

pshh romance is fine the thing i don't like about some books is when the guy gives the girl a flower and all girls reading it are like 'isn't he so sweet and gallant?!?!?!' then i go and give someone a $50 rose bouquet and they decide to dump me that day.
but the action and killing are the best part i must admit....

I know a few guys that read, but I noticed lately that reading has become more of a girl thing because most of the guys I know prefer video games and technology. I think it has to do with thought process though. Girls seem to have more ability to sit and enjoy a good book. Where as most of the guys I know would prefer to do other things, ie: Video games, sports, etc.

Why are so many people perpetuating the misconception that mainly, guys play video games, and mainly, girls read/get involved with book/movie fandoms? It's bull. Plenty of girls play video games, and plenty of guys read.
In my experience, girls are more likely to want to discuss what they've read (and are also more likely to pretend to be guys on xbl. I know I've done that many times), and guys are more likely to enjoy a book, then put it down and forget about it, and discuss things as they happen. Thus, guys are less drawn to fandom. Just my observations. Obviously, there will be exceptions, and I don't exactly have access to a representative sample of the world's population at my disposal.

I know plenty of guys that read, considering I go to a prep school, but either they only read a genre (like historical fiction) or they like playing video games more than discussing books. I have a guy friend who loves LotR, but he only talks about it when prompted, or when I get into an argument with my Latin teacher about how I will read LotR if he reads PJO and HP and THG. It's just more of only discussing when everyone else is. Like another of my friends likes PJO but only talks about it when the circumstances are right.

Male here--as is demonstrated by my deep voice and burly beard. Funnily enough, it seems that most forums I frequent, it's predominantly males, whereas the females are in the minority (these boards are Zelda, Star Wars, etc.). I think this is because guys are supposed to be "nerdy" whereas women prefer to focus on shopping--or at least that's the cultural stereotype. I think this is the first forum I've been on where this is reversed. Personally, I split my time fairly equally between reading and playing video games. There just needs to be a thread where all the guys can introduce themselves! There already is one! Men can use the general intro section just the same as the women.

I have a lot of male friends who read the book but just don't love them enough to the point where they go on forums and talk about them.

Hello,, There are plenty of women in Tolkien's world - but it's an ancient world in which women stayed at home. You know, just like OUR WORLD .

I do believe girls read more than boys. I also think reading is on the decline.
