To be quite honest, I have to say I hate Twilight. I can't stand it. (I was interested by this thread because frankly, some of the fans are just as bad as the antis, and I wanted to see what you guys had to say.)
In my opinion, it was poorly-written, badly constructed, and enormously contrived. The character development left everything to the imagination, Meyer did little-to-no research on the real world in which she was setting her series, and couldn't even be bothered to look back on her own writing. The result is a boring book with poor consistency. The thing is, though, that's my opinion. I can't really piss and moan about her consistency, either, since Sir Arthur Conan Doyle spent an entire story calling one of his own main characters by the wrong name.
The thing is, I have a million and one problems with Twilight. I really do. I burned my own copy of each book in the series as I finished them, (I still have the photos somewhere, I think) I hated it that much. I genuinely can't stand it. But I do have to say, in Meyer's defense; she really did get a lot of kids back into reading, who, otherwise, might not have ever bothered to pick a book up for pleasure. She's a terrible author, but kids go from terrible authors to slightly better authors to much better authors and from there the possibilities are endless.
That's what I don't understand about the obsessive anti-fans. I dislike the books, on an intellectual basis; that's great, but does that then give me the right to deny someone else the pleasure of curling up with a hot chocolate and their favourite novel, which by pure coincidence is the one I despise? Does it hell.
You guys should be free to enjoy your fandom. Don't let the antis get to you, read whatever the hell you like, and enjoy it. Life's too short to care what other people think. (I'm sorry that this post was so long, and negative-seeming. I intended it to be more positive than that, but... erm... Well. It didn't work.)

You... burned.... a book?! You what?!
I have no problem with what you said, at all. And I've often wanted to burn something when I hated it, but... These books played a huge part in lifting me out of my depression, and you...
I don't mind that she left a lot to the imagination in the books, because it's a vampire story. I have no problem with that. That's why I read fantasy fiction. About the structure... Well, that isn't really what I focus on when I read, so I can't comment on that.
I can honestly say that the only part of your post that offends me in any way is the burning. You. Burned. The Twilight Saga! Those pictures you say you have? Can you... ugh... post them... so I can burn those? Not because I have any desire to see that...
This actually makes me sadder than all the rude, ignorant, and misspelled comments ever made about Twilight...

I will say that I couldn't get through all of the Twighlight saga. I read all of the first two and the first half of the 4th, but I respect that you guys stick to your fandom even though everyone is bashing it. I definitely don't hate it, but I don't love it. I think the reason for that is because I care more for the well written-ness of the books than the story itself. I will say that it had an original plot for it, so I guess I feel kinda neutral about it (although Harry Potter will always be better in my mind.) and I did see the first three movies at midnight but not the fourth because I knew there would be loads of blood.

Can you... ugh... post them... so I can burn those? Not because I have any desire to see that... This actually makes me sadder than all the rude, ignorant, and misspelled comments ever made about Twilight... I did. It's not a thing I'm proud of. Kind of like a murderer who only kills because they want other criminals off the streets.
I'm not sure where they're saved. All my old pen drives are stuffed in boxes in the back room, atm, from when I moved (over a year ago. Too much mess to pull back out, and potentially spiders living in there. Haha.)
My friend wanted burned book pages and such for an art project she was doing, and she didn't want to burn any of hers, so I turned round and went "Well, here, I have this, and I literally have no use for it at all." and she used it, and then we decided to make a series of it. Haha.
Besides, the way I see it, the series is an assault on literature. They're horribly written. (I don't mean this as an attack on your fandom. In fact, if anything, I actually respect Twilight fans for having the courage to stick by their fandom and defend it against... Well... Everyone.) So I wasn't going to take them to a charity shop and inflict them on anybody else. It was a highly cnvenient method of disposal.

Taking them to a charity shop would have been recycling paper and saving the planet though No, it doesn't really matter. And anyway, other people's opinions of Twilight has no effect on me, the same way it wouldn't if they were talking about anything else. I've never really been one to abandon a sinking ship... It's all about perseverance. Why would you abandon something/ someone you love just because other people don't like them? That's one of my main problems with Robert Pattinson. He chose to play Edward, he even went out of his way to audition for the part! But as soon as people started being negative, he decided he hated the books/ movies... Considering that he has an army of teenage girls slobbering over him, what kind of message is he trying to spread? It's just really annoying...

^Sashbash You're so right
And locke it's not badly written read the Vampire Diaries if you don't believe me because as good as the story is the writing quality is just... Anyway, back to the topic Twilight is a good series it is not written anywhere near as badly as some people make it out and the fault with the book if there is any to be found is in the content not the literary style I think Stephenie does a really good job of showing how Bella thinks

Well, I hear that argument a lot too. It's a very popular opinion- The Vampire Diaries books are terrible. I've read those too (not the new trilogy because it isn't by L. J. Smith, and I disagree with that whole drama). I agree that it is written a lot worse than Twilight. But it's more about the idea, or the storyline. It inspires me. Unpopular opinion alert (I obviously have a lot of unpopular opinions lol). People say it's too surreal, or unrealistic, but then again I kind of crave that. The whole fantasy thing. I agree with the Bella's-thoughts thing. But I wonder how people would have reacted to Midnight Sun, the book in Edwards POV, if that had been published... But I can't help with you guys on the quality of writing because that -obviously- isn't how I judge whether a book is good or not Also, how was the Breaking Dawn movie rated 12A? It was seriously bloody, and if I had watched that when I was 12 then I would probably be mentally scarred for life!

Hey. So, I'll say that I'm not a fan of Twilight... now. Understand, though, that I think it's great FOR WHAT IT IS. It's a romance with a haunting/dark-ish twist, intended primarily (though is sometimes enjoyed by other than) teen and pre-teen girls. And the twelve-year old me, an avid reader and just becoming interested in boys devoured the books as my mother purchased them for me. I was a total fangirl, and my overactive imagination liked to fill in the blanks. Yeah, it's not heavy on action and plot... Because it's a teen romance, meant for the enjoyment of those looking for a love story. It's not intended for those of us seeking out LOTR-esque worlds or Harry Potter-esque adventures. So no, I don't consider it to be a phenomenal book that will transcend the ages. But it's not the scum of the earth, nor do its fans deserve bashing. Yes, I, a strong-minded sixteen-year-old happen to have felt as though my tastes... outgrew? No, shifted away from a point where I enjoy it. Big whoop. It's still a valid fandom, still doing well and being enjoyed. I will point out that I dislike the author's religious beliefs being shoved down my throat by the form of the story, and I'm not very fond of the characters, and I feel as though certain points were unoriginal (*Cough*Volturi are Vampire Chronicles rejects*Cough*). But some aspects were cool. While not my cup of tea any longer, I give major props to SMeyer for having the guts to create her own mythology. Yeaaaah, there are some holes, but as a rabid fan of things, myself, I know a loyal fan will overlook minor things, or maybe acknoledge them even. But calling their fandom stupid for such fallacies is just rude. I'm all for the minorities. I'm at a school where I'm looked at funny for loving the TARDIS, for declaring my slytherin pride, screaming "BY THE ANGEL," and for raving about Lestat. That's not a good feeling. And I certainly don't wish to be that ignorant jerk to someone else. And I feel your pain, dearies about those who don't know what they're talking about bashing on you and what you love. As a bisexual, nerdy punk who writes constantly... I KNOW. I didn't really know what my (long, sorry!) post's point was when I began... but I think what I mean to say is that y'all have support from at least one (anarchist) Anti. Ah, hell, I hate being called that, it sounds hateful. You have support from one different from you. So I won't go on about my own views of Twilight (I kept those to a minimum), and I won't say anything more. That's not why I'm in this thread. What I WILL say is keep enjoying your fandoms, and I'm always willing to swashbuckle a bully or have a cheery philosophical debate.

Yeah, I don't get why people think all Slytherins are evil... I get looked at funny for declaring my Hufflepuff pride I hear a lot of people talking about how they were fans, but grew away from it. Someone who I know, who's enthusiasm about New Moon coming to the cinemas, now detests Twilight with a passion... I wondering if that'll happen to all of us. Thanks for the support!

Eh, you never know. People change fandoms regardless of how good the fandom. Maybe you'll stick by it, maybe not. Sometimes one just obsessed over something then grows tired with it. In any case, you guys all behave much nicer and more like a normal fandom now than you used to, and it was the former rabid fanbase that dug in so much hate. So hopefully your opposition will die down, Dearie! Awwww, Wear your hufflepuff with pride~! You've got the commonroom closest the kitchens and are way sweet! Besides, you had a wizard in the triwazrd tournament! I also agree on Slytherin. We had Merlin, so says Pottermore, and he was VERY pro-muggle.

come ON. sparkly vampires? i HATE it when people say this! whats your problem! Twilight is awesoome.... but i guess in the movie, Robert Pattison looked really bad, only because Edward is so much awesomer and its IMPOSSIBLE to play him. i guess im Team Edward, though i love Jacob i just think Edwards right for Bella... or Jacob... i dont know!!!!!!! ahhh!! anyways, i still love Twilight. Twilight is NOT GAY. for all you Twilight haters out there. you know it. so deal with it.

I'm sure the opposition will die down after the final movie... It's nothing new really, and not nearly as climatic as the end of Harry Potter I wonder if any of those rabid fangirls are still in the fandom, or have moved and begun hating it as much as some of the original haters do? And Slytherins definitely don't deserve hate- Pottermore declared me a Slytherpuff (IDK how that works) but I chose Hufflepuff And Mockingjay- I don't think there's anyone who could have played Edward perfectly. The way he's written isn't realistic since he's kinda 100+ years old, so Rob did the best he could. And I'm not really sure who I ship either

I feel like Robert got better at playing Edward as the movies went along , but I lost a lot of respect for him when he started badmouthing Twilight , it's just if you were the author (yes , this is my biggest argument.) these actors are making your characters come alive. I've trued writing books ( <3 for NaNoWriMo) and you do get attatched to your little characters .So if actors were to portray them and make them come alive you would be obviously excited , but for him to then go and say how much he hates his role? not cool bro. <3 He's a bloody brilliant actor , but that was not okay.

Twilight isn't my favorite book series, if I'm going to be honest here. I admit that I have bashed it at times. I did read all four books, and I only really liked the first one. Breaking Dawn was too graphic and disgusting for me. You can't say I haven't given it a chance, though. I'm not making much of a point, am I? I personally liked Harry Potter and Doctor Who, but Twilight was pretty good with the exception of Breaking Dawn, which was quite literally a great big suck-fest.
