Personally, I don't think that Katniss named them after people she lost. I don't think there is a Rue Primrose Mellark, or a Finnick Cinna Mellark, because that would have been too painful for Katniss. She wanted to let go of the people she lost. I think she continued the tradition of naming her kids after plants. Maybe there is a Lily or a Sassafrass as the girl, and maybe there is a Whole Wheat or Multigrain as the boy . Maybe Suzanne will release their names latter...

I also don't see Katniss as the nostalgic type. I see her choosing creative, but not outrageous names for her kids. Maybe Destiny for a girl. Plant wise I see something simple like Rose.

I totally back you up on the Multigrain name. At first I thought she would name the boy Wonder, like the bread brand, but then it sounded too much like a District 1 name, so I settled on Rye. I don't like the fact that everyone names them after flowers or plants, because that's just too much, so I settled on Melody for the girl, because of all the singing in the trilogy.

I like your names Rye and Melody! Very creative! Hmmmm, I really don't have any names to offer simply because I kind of hope that Suzanne DOESN'T give them names. Some characters are best without names and I think that if she was to give them names, it would kind of mess up my idea of the ending. That doesn't make much sense, but it's difficult to explain!

I understand your point, mizbizsav. It's like unnamed tributes, or the unnamed people of District 12 who were bombed, right?

I doubt Katniss would name her child Rose simply because of President Snow. I saw once that someone referred to them as Jack and Susan because that's apparently the names of Suzanne Collins' children, but I'm not sure.
If I could name them, I'd name the girl Lilly and the boy Wheet.

I understand your point, mizbizsav. It's like unnamed tributes, or the unnamed people of District 12 who were bombed, right? Yup! Exactly! I don't know if you have heard, but a Tribute Guide for The Hunger Games is coming out in February and it apparently goes into the backstories of the Tributes in the 74th Games. I don't know if it will dub them names, but I'd really rather refer to them as, like, "District 9 boy who got stabbed by Clove". Giving them names also makes their story a little more sad. Like, these were kids that had real lives and families that they were hoping to return to.

I agree. It's more sad to hear "Mags is dead" or "Rue is dead" than to hear "The tribute from 6 is dead".

I think she would have named the boy Orion and the girl Hope.

I agree with the person that said she would have named them after plants and grains. I don't think there's a Prim, either.. that's what the book was for, to pay tribute to them and never forget them. When her children are older, they'll understand what those names mean. But I don't think Katniss would want to burden her future with her past.

Prim and Croissant is a popular theory, but I don't really believe it.

The boy I think was probably named after Peeta's father. Peeta's mother might have been a beeatch but his father seemed really sweet. I don't think the boy was named Finnick, contrary to popular belief. Annie probably named her son Finnick so Katniss wouldn't have named her kid the same. My guess for the girl is that her middle name was either Rue, Madge, or Lavinia. Not Prim. Prim would have been too hard for Katniss. Rue is obvious. Madge was always there for Katniss even if she didn't see it. Lavinia was just so sweet to Katniss and I think Peeta probably wanted to honor her memory after being tortured with her in the capitol. Her first name was probably a plant like you all have been saying. Rose is too close to Primrose and it would have made her think of Snow. Maybe Lily or Daisy?? I think the boy's middle name was after Peeta's father, as stated before, but his first name is probably Dan or Danny after the dandelions that reminded Katniss of hope. She said that she needed the dandelion in the spring, that meant hope (or something like that) and only Peeta could give her that. So with Peeta's father's name as his middle name and his first name resembling the hope Peeta brought the boy would be mostly like Peeta. And with the girl carrying on the plant names and her middle name as someone who was close to Katniss, she would be like Katniss.
So, my final guess after all that (with guessing Peeta's dad's name)- Girl: Lilly Madge Mellark Boy: Danny James Mellark

One of my favourite fanfics about how Mockingjay should have ended said 2 names being Lily and Rye. Lily for the girl because Lily means return of happiness while I'm guessing the author chose Rye because it's a type of bread. I loved these names because they fit so perfectly. And the fanfic is called Letters from the Sky(:

I like just having them without names. It leaves you thinking and I think that it helps end the story with the fact that we don't know their names. Though I did like the names Rye and Melody.
