This detail always lingered in my mind, after being blown by the awesomness of Suzanne Collins' books. What about the rest of the world? Did they just leave North America to rot?

If something like a telephone was a luxury, then most likely internet wasn't around anymore. So there would be no means of communication between Panem and the rest of the world. Also, if they did see any news about Panem, it would be Capitol fed lies. The Capitol Government controlled broadcasts (like in Mockingjay, with the D13 tapes) they could just be the same old tapes on a green screen. Before the dark days, when Panem wasn't such a bad place to be. And the other countries might be just a corrupt. They could of had to deal with their own problems.

The UN failed lol. If you can't see it, it's not there. In some situations, people turn the other way when things make them uncomfortable or embarrass them. I felt like maybe the leaders of the rest of the world were embarrassed, disgusted, or uncomfortable with this. So they pretended it wasn't there. I mean, until Katniss, it didn't seem like anyone in the time period had the back bone to stand up to government. So people in the rest of the world who were outraged, probably just kept to themselves, instead of protesting or confronting their government about it.
Even if someone wanted to interfere, I feel like the Capitol would have been an extremely intimidating thing to rise against. But c'mon! More than 70 years this has been going on! I think that's enough time to join together and go up against the Capitol.

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHAT HAPPENED TO JOHANNA. Personally because you see she can't be in the "Star Squad" so what happened to her in 13 after that? "The world will never know!" XD

I actually brought this up in ap human geography today! We came to this conclusion: -Russia finally became a nation with the population of 0 and became a frozen wasteland inhabited only by penguins and gold wearing bears like on the Golden Compass -many of the people in the heavily populated Asian countries were killed because of disease and poor living conditions -Europeans were lucky enough to have half their population saved and sent to North America while the rest fell to disease and war -those in Africa are still living there but because they don't have technology they can't reach anyone and because their Africa with all their wild animals & such -and that much of South America is being used to keep up the ever demanding supply of Peacekeepers. We had a lot of fun deciding what happened to the rest of the world. Haha, that sounds so nice doesnt it?

There is a rpg site that is about another country in the hunger games world. This site is brand knew and I think they are getting ready to host beta games, to see if their system works out. Their country is called Vitare. Vitare is supposedly some country that rose out of the ruins of what used to be Australia. It was developed similarly to Panem. The site's plot explains a bit. The site has a map of Vitare as well: So fan-made their are things going on in the rest of the world.
