i think it will be frank because his life is connected to a piece of wood and i don't really like him. But it could be Leo because Rick has been getting all of the fandom close to leo and making him die would make a great ending.

Okay, I think we all know who its going to be. PERCY!! What's Percy's fatal flaw? Loyalty; he would risk his life for his friends to keep them safe. Plus the Great Prophecy says: an oath to keep with a final breath! Percy promised he would keep Annabeth safe, that he would stay with her. He would stay, to die in the underworld, to keep her safe.

Okay, I have an issue with the whole fatal flaw thing. If we are talking about that, don't you think Leo would feel like it's his duty to do it? His fatal flaw is feeling inferior, so he might think everyone else has a better reason to live

I honestly don't think it's possible to know who will stay until we read the book. Leo is a good guess if you look at all the facts, Riordan's been hounding on his since the beginning, but it could very well be Annabeth. I believe Mars said Percy would have to make a sacrifice that he(Mars) didn't think he could make and that Frank would have to help Percy keep his sense of duty(I think that's how it went). It could also be Hazel see as she is supposed to be dead anyway(no offence). Frank is as good a guess as the others what with his stick burnt to a tiny stub(again no offence). And as much as I hate to say it, Percy could be the one to stay behind if his fatal flaw kicks in which it will regardless of who's going in, we all know that. I really don't know what to say about Piper or Jason, Riordan didn't really write any type of foreshadowing that I caught, but that only makes me more suspicious of them. Like I said before there really is no telling who will stay. We just have to wait and gods do I hate waiting!

There are tons of theories for who will close the Doors but honestly I'm thinking along the lines of Leo or Nico. I'll explain. Nico has always been that kind of character who is important to the series but has taken a back seat for all the other characters which is explanatory since there are more than seven different characters each with their own set of issues. Not to say that Nico hasn't been an important character and freaking awesome with the exception of a few unimpressive flaws. And you have to remember that demigods as well as some mortals have died and come back from the Underworld and Nico has been there many times. I would think that if he was the son of Hades(sorry Romans, I'm a graecus. Deal with it.) he would know a way out of Tartarus, if in fact he closed the Doors. In my opinion, I think Nico is the one person in the THO series that is most likely to survive so idk if he's the true demigod to sacrifice himself to the Doors of Death or not. And then there's Leo. Ok. As much as it breaks my heart to even think about him taking up this task, I think he might actually be the one. First of all, he has nothing to loose except his own life. Granted, he has his friends (his demigod family) but Leo has always thought of himself as the third wheel. He even said so. His secret lack of confidence in himself despite his cheery, happy-go-lucky, hilarious personality he feels bitter like all demigods. He feels pain even when he doesn't show it. I don't think any of the other demigods have picked up on that. I mean, he has probably the saddest backstory I have ever seen since Luke, Annabeth, and now even Hazel. But what does he do? He keeps a level head and keeps moving forward. Therefore, he might feel like the only way to clear his conscience (meaning when he took responsibility for his mother's death, etc.), prove himself, and to save the people he cares about, he would have to sacrifice himself and close the Doors. I'm seriously going to sob, ugly, ugly sobbing if Leo dies.

I think someone other than Percy will stay behind, either Annabeth, Nico or Hazel; then Percy will get mad and destroy the Giants and Gaia. This might just be because I have read a large amount of FanFics where this happens but it seems like a good idea, and would be a better set up for the last book. Riordan says there will be only one more book after "The House of Hades" so anyone could close the doors. It could be Percy and then the last book is either about his eventual death or his escape from Tartarus, or it could be someone else and then the last book is about what Percy does. It could even be that this book ends with them getting out of Tartarus and then the last book is the actual war with the Giants and Gaia. I personally hope it is either Nico or Hazel, because as much as I dislike Annabeth's character, I don't see how Rick could develop an new relationship or have a good ending without having either a happy ending for Percy, with Annabeth, or his death. In the end we will have to wait and find out. Not too long left to wait though, only 22 days left from now!

It can't be Percy, because at the end of the Last Olympian the Fates showed Percy flashes from his life and he got old right?

Just because he got old doesn't mean he doesn't stay in Tartarus. He could get out at some point in the last book. I mean, there are lots of (Good)FanFics that have story-lines that have Percy getting out of the pit in one way or another.
